When I was driving up into the Australian Alps through the Namadgi National Park, I spotted something at the side of the road. Three kangaroos burst out in front of my car. I slowed down, and they kept going, as if it was a motorcade and they were the advance detachment. For half a mile, I followed them up the winding road, until they eventually saw sense and hopped off onto a grass bank, disappearing down the hill.
