Haunted hotels | Castle Stuart, Inverness, Scotland

The story goes that the Earl of Moray, who owned Castle Stuart, was desperate to prove that the castle wasn’t haunted. So he issued a challenge to anyone brave enough to stay in the room at the top of the castle’s East Tower, which was gleefully taken up by a local poacher.

Alas, the next morning the poacher’s body was found in the courtyard below. He was dead, and had a look of terror on his face. The room had been smashed up, and an eyewitness reported seeing the devil.

This could, of course, all be completely baloney. The supposedly haunted room is now the honeymoon suite, so there’s likely to be some sort of movement in the dark, whether paranormal or not.
