It’s a fleece, a waterproof anorak and a winter coat all in one, but does the clever design make the Craghoppers Haviland 3-in-1 jacket worth the money?
Unless there are people out there that find bright green blobs hugely attractive, it’s fair to say that the Craghoppers Haviland 3-in-1 jacket won’t be featuring in many fashion magazine spreads any time soon. It is not sexy.
But, then again, I doubt anyone’s going to buy it because it’s sexy. Anyone considering the purchase of this coat is likely to be doing so for practical reasons. Stylistas, step away now.
The key feature of the Craghoppers Haviland 3-in-1 jacket is that it can be adapted for conditions. To all intents and purposes, it’s a fleece zipped inside a waterproof anorak. If it’s not raining, you can just wear the fleece. If it’s raining but too warm, zip the fleece out and leave it behind. There is also a detachable hood.
This arrangement works rather well. The zips are a little fiddly at first, but fine once you work out what you’re doing. There are also little fasteners inside the sleeve so that it feels like a whole when wearing everything together. It’s warm, it’s waterproof, and the layering effect makes it a great shoulder season solution when you don’t quite know what sort of temperatures you’ll encounter.
The pockets are zipped, although there could perhaps be more of them, and they can be found in the fleece too – you don’t have to forgo pockets because you’re too hot.
On the negative side, I find the cut a bit short. I have got an oddly long back for my height, however – although I suspect others will find the same issue. An extra inch or so in length wouldn’t go amiss, if you’ll excuse the cheap double entendre.
It’s also an expensive purchase – arguably a worthwhile one – but expensive. And for over £100, you’d probably expect something that looks a little less like an Arctic explorer’s high visibility coat.
